Gucci’s 2024 Year of the Dragon Scarf: Dragini

Name: Baby Dragon Print

In 2024, the Chinese calendar heralded the year of the Dragon, a significant event that captured the attention of Gucci and their loyal followers. Anticipation ran high for the release of a coveted capsule collection showcasing beloved childhood cartoon characters. Gucci skillfully infused elements of the Kawaii Culture from Japan into the mythical dragon, adding a touch of charm and innocence to the revered creature.

Originating in the 1970s, Kawaii culture in Japan emphasizes cuteness, innocence and childishness, reflecting key aspects of Japanese Pop Culture. This cultural phenomenon emerged as a means for the younger generation to express themselves amidst the stringent societal norms prevalent in post-war Japan.

Gucci brings together two Eastern cultural traditions overlaid on its own iconic supreme print to create a trifecta of meaning, joy and reverence… or is it irreverence?

Respoke has taken the final step by reinventing  this transformation into flip-flops made from the Baby Dragon Gucci Scarf, that we call “Dragini.”
